La Romana Real Estate and Properties
Golf Villas & Oceanfront Properties
La Romana, the third largest city in the Dominican Republic, lies along the south coast of the country, facing the Caribbean Sea between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. The city, which offers area residents and visitors a wide variety of shopping, entertainment and elegant residential areas, recently opened its own airport, La Romana International. The greater La Romana area includes the beautiful tourist areas of Bayahibe, Dominicus, and the world-renowned Casa de Campo.
Casa de Campo, certainly the flagship resort of the entire south coast, was begun by Gulf & Western in 1975 and later acquired by the Fanjul family. The resort, in close association with Oscar de la Renta, created Altos de Chavon, a remarkable re-creation of a 16th century Italian hill town. Here, the visitor may wander streets seemingly pulled intact from a Renaissance setting, visiting wonderful art and sculpture galleries, exclusive shops and world-class restaurants. The views across the valley of the Chavon River and Pete Dye’s famous “Dye Fore” golf course will inspire and amaze.
Golfer’s Paradise
For the golfer, La Romana is home to many championship courses, some new and some in place since the 1970s and before. Perhaps the most famous golf course in all the Caribbean, Dientes del Perro, or Teeth of the Dog, has both confounded and thrilled golfers of all levels for decades. Other well known area courses include the afore-mentioned “Dye Fore” and “The Links” courses, both on the grounds of Casa de Campo. La Estancia, a recently completed P.B. Dye course just a few miles from La Romana offers challenging golf and beautiful accommodations. In addition, a new 4-lane super highway connects La Romana with the famed resort areas of “the east” such as Punta Cana and Cap Cana, with their world-class resorts and championship golf courses.
Luxurious Offerings
The La Romana area offers everything a tropical tourist or someone considering the purchase of a tropical home might wish for. There are great facilities for boats, including the new marina at Casa de Campo which features slips for mega-yachts and a full range of marine services. The marina is also a port of entry. Bayahibe, too, offers sailing, windsurfing, kiteboarding and fishing. If you love horses, the equestrian Center at Casa de Campo features beautiful facilities with polo an active pastime on well-known polo grounds. A large and active tennis facility caters to all levels, and a sporting clays/skeet/trap range appeals to shooters from all over the world. Olympic trap teams from many countries including the United States, have used this facility for winter training.
The real estate market in the La Romana area offers condominiums and houses of all sizes and in most price ranges. Waterfront villas in Casa de Campo fetch many millions while smaller villas and condos in and around the city can be had for quite reasonable prices. The new La Estancia resort community offers condominium townhouses that face its beautiful golf course. Casa de Campo offers homes of all types and some are quite affordable. In all, the Caribbean lifestyle you always dreamed of awaits you in this friendly area of the beautiful Dominican Republic.
